We (me and Andy) decided to imitate the movie Sideways and took a weekend trip up to Vermont, where we hoped to learn a thing or two about wines and enjoy the nice early autumn weather. We didn't meet any women though, and neither me nor Andy needed to be wed when we returned home. But we had a fantastic time, and even saw Sideways (again) on my laptop in our hotel room.
The sights we saw.
We left New Jersey at 2am and drove straight. We were exhausted by the time we reached Lake George in Vermont. We pulled up to a parking lot right near the water and walked for a few minutes before taking a much-needed nap. A duck joined us as we watched the sunrise.
We came across a beautiful town called Vergennes. We filled up on gas and had breakfast there. A plate of French toast, two eggs, and two sausages for $6.50 - a very sweet price when you're from NYC. We were conscious of being the only minorities there. It was such a pretty place and everything seemed to be on one street, aptly named Main St.
Our first stop was Boyden Valley Winery in Cambridge, VT. It was a beautiful farm with a winery in the basement of one its houses. It was a very small place and the equipment didn't seem all that impressive, but it was nice seeing the people talk really passionately about their products. They have some excellent dessert wines.
One of my favorite things about autumn are its colors. Although the leaves hadn't turned yet, seeing pumpkins definitely set the fall mood. We referenced John Mayer's Something's Missing to talk about how autumn just creeps up "like a fog around the glass of your summer heart." We walked around the farm afterwards and played with goats.
