other film projects & experiments
It's one thing to watch and write about movies and another to make them. As a "fun" activity, there is, in my opinion, nothing as challenging or draining as filmmaking. Even as a hobby, filmmaking takes a considerable amount of planning, coordinating, and financing. But in the end, when you sit around with all the people who were involved and screen the final product, everything always seems worth it. Here are a list of works that have brought joyful moments to my life.
Me?
On the 19th birthday of our friend Diana "Monster" Finkel, the LBS group collaborated on a short film and presented it as a gift. This was the first complete short film made by LBS. Starring Ken Chen, Andy Ni, and Reggie Soang and shot in Edison, NJ.

The Queen of the Monsters: The Fellowship of the Ring
For Christmas (in 2002), we presented our friend Diana "Monster" Finkel with yet another LBS gift. This time, we spoofed the Lord of the Rings and created a trailer that showed a group's search for the perfect "gift." Starring Welton Chang, Ken Chen, Andy Ni, and Reggie Soang and shot in New York City.

We also took time to edit an out-takes/blooper clip, and in many ways the out-takes came out funnier and more interesting than the trailer. Watched together, you can get the sense of how fast we operated in order to finish the entire product in a single day.

With Flying Colors: The Story of the 2003 HBA Summer League
In the summer of 2003, the Hoching Basketball Association held games every Sunday at Wintergreen park. At each game, we had inactive players taking turns videotaping the games. By the end of the season, we had enough footage to make a decent highlight reel. The only question was finding a way to string those highlights in a somewhat coherent narrative.

KSA Culture Show 2004: Intro Video
With just one day to go before the Culture Show, Sei-Wook and I embarked on a day-long shooting spree in hopes of creating some sort of video to hype up the crowd at the beginning of the show. Thanks to the editing skills of Terry Lai, we were able to pump out a video just hours before the show.

KSA Culture Show 2004: Board Skit
In what was a most grueling experience, this film, written primarily by John Jung and directed by Terry Lai, featured Joyce Kim as the lead actress. As for my role, I helped to direct and write, but I was also given a role in which I played myself (bleh). Shown in four parts (combined here).

KSA Culture Show 2005: Generation Four
One of the most rewarding experiences in recent memory, this film allowed me to explore all aspects of my filmmaking abilities. After writing a 20-page draft script, I worked with Terry to revise the script and direct the film. Terry did all of the editing and found the appropriate music tracks while I worked on casting and the logistical end of the production with our trusty assistant Alex Cheung. Starring Michael Cho (Steve), Julie Yang (Jenny), Hannah Lee (Harriet), Cathy Park (Mary), Clara Kim (agent) and Novi (Robert) and shot around Columbia campus.

KSA Culture Show 2005: Behind the Scenes with Director PK
For a documetnary class project, Terry decided to record my interactions with the actors during the filming of Generation Four. While it's always embarassing to see yourself and hearing yourself on film, I found this clip to be very amusing. In reality, Terry and I shared directing duties, but this clip makes me look important.
