columbia film studies projects
I began my Film Studies major at Columbia in the Fall semester of my sophomore year. In Feburary 2005, I completed my senior essay titled "Meditations on a Subgenre: The Wall Street Yuppie Movie." In between, I have tried my hand at filmmaking for some of my classes. I use Adobe Premiere to edit all my work.
Intro to Film Studies: Final Project
For this project, we were asked to choose three different styles of editing for the same "script." Since I used to shave my head every two weeks, I chose the moments leading up to the haircut as the subject matter. I also happened to listen to John Mayer whenever I cut my hair, so that explains the soundtrack.

Lab in Fiction Filmmaking: A Multishot Affair
We were given a Table A/B exercise in class in which we had to show two people sitting at a table and doing something. I asked my friends Sei-Wook Kim and Christina "Diva" Chung to help me with the project. It was shot in Sei-Wook's suite, East Campus 1406.

Lab in Fiction Filmmaking: The Marriage Bed
In this assignment, we were given a short script of a "marriage" scenario in which a husband and wife argue about doing the laundry. Brian Kim played the husband while Christina "Diva" Chung starred once again as the wife. The project was shot in Grace's room in East Campus 1405B.

Lab in Fiction Filmmaking: The Sell Out
For my final project, I wrote a script loosely based on stories I've heard from people working in investment banking. It was also an expression of anxiety on my part after I accepted my offer from Lehman Brothers. While the final results were far from what I had imagined, the acting saved the film. The actors were: Andy Ni (Jim), Novi (Robert Jacobsky), Jay Mung (Sam), Ken Chen (Nick), and Diva (Lisa).
